Seedling Yoga 8-week Program
Yoga is an ancient Indian science that offers a powerful framework and context for teaching and learning social and emotional competencies.
This program provides an opportunity to explore The New Zealand Health and Physical Education Curriculum in a powerfully practical way.
Students engage in activities intentionally designed to facilitate thinking about their emotions, thoughts, and actions in relation to physical, mental, and emotional needs. Throughout the program, they are exposed to practical solutions for supporting and managing these needs, thoughts, and feelings.
Features
The Seedling Yoga Curriculum uses evidence-based practices to provide students and teachers with powerful learning experiences that can enhance their classroom and home communities.
Curriculum aligned
Every lesson has been designed to meet specific achievement objectives from the Health and Physical Education curriculum. This gives leaders and educators peace of mind that they are still providing quality learning opportunities to their school community.
Responsive
The program is intentionally structured to scaffold students learning but is still flexible enough to adapt to each unique classroom community.Â
Your Seed Planter pays particular interest to the personalities, needs and interests of each class they work with and adapts their teaching accordingly.
Practical
We teach the tamariki in front of us ensuring they learn tools that meet their own unique needs.Â
We work towards understanding how we can use Yoga in our every day lifeand sharing it with our wider community whilst also learning more about ourselves and what we need to succeed.
How it works
Over sixteen sessions students are introduced to Yoga forms or postures, breathing patterns, and mindfulness activities.
Each week students are provided with opportunities to connect with themselves and their peers through learning 6 specific sequences that connect together.
The final weeks of the program logically and playfully support young people to embody their new learning and to creatively apply it in their lives and communities.

The program has been designed with the Health and Physical Education Curriculum Achievement Objectives in mind whilst also drawing on literacy, mathematics, science and the arts.
It can be tailored to integrate school values, inquiries, interests, and activities including any existing social-emotional learning programs.
